LaVanda Brown, M.Ed, YWCA Greater Charleston Executive Director
LaVanda Brown works hard every day to empower women and eliminate racism: YWCA.GC's dual mission. While honoring its historic legacy with programs like its annual MLK Celebration, she has also transformed the nonprofit with a series of highly effective programs like #WhatWomenBring, honoring South Carolina's women in business, community, and culture; WE 360° for women entrepreneurs of color; Racial Equity & Inclusion workshops; and Y Girls Code technology clubs to increase opportunities for girls of color. Along with other recognition, she has been featured in the Philanthropy Journal.

Paula Orr, MD, 2020 YWCA Greater Charleston #WhatWomenBring Healthcare Honoree
A warrior for children who feel their voices don’t matter, Sherrika is the author of The Lil Herbie Series, a collection of English and Spanish children’s books focused on social-emotional learning. She is also the creator of anti-bullying mascot Lil Herbie and the Lil Herbie animated series focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and more. As the founder of Every 1 Voice Matters, Sherrika helps children tackle barriers. She is the recent recipient of an ABC News 4 Jefferson Award, Iota Phi Lambda Living Makers of Black History Award, and Woman Life Changers Award. She was also named a 2020 Top 10 Entrepreneur by NY Weekly, and has been featured on Black News Channel, E Monthly News, NY Wire, and more.​
